DESPITE falling in the second round of the men’s the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Tour Smythe Toys Hinckley Challenger 2025, Zimbabwe’s squash sensation, Ryan Gwidzima is rubbing elbows with the world’s top players in England.
Gwidzima (19) lost 2-3 to Poland’s 22-year-old Jakub Plytlowany after five set, winning the first two 11-5, 11-6 only to lose the last three 5-11, 6-11, 7-11 to bow out of the tournament on Thursday.
The teenage squash ace, seeded eighth in the competition, entered the contest on a bye only to lose in his first match.
Unseeded Plytlowany lost to Irishman Dennis Gilevskiy in the quarter-final Friday.
The semi-finals are set to be played today and the finals tomorrow.
Gwidzima is ranked 256 in the world and last month in the PSA Challenger Tour Men’s World Championship Qualifying event, fell to Egyptian Ziad Ibrahim in the quarter-final after beating another Egyptian Yehiah Essam in the semis in South Africa.
In November last year, while at Falcon College, he clinched the Irish Junior Open.
