Bosso 90, needed a last-minute goal to secure a hard-fought point against Bulawayo City at White City Stadium this afternoon in an entertaining Bulawayo derby match in the Southern Region Soccer League.
Matches between the two teams are always exciting, and this one was no exception.
The two clubs share a lot in common, including a father coming face-to-face with his son.
Bosso 90’s assistant coach, Gift Lunga (jnr), came face-to-face against his son, who shares the same name.
As expected, the match was explosive, with Bosso 90 assuming dominance from the onset but failing to bury the chances they created.
BCC took the lead against the run of play courtesy of an Anesu Saiti strike in the 38th minute.
Bosso 90 defender Nhlanhleni Lusaba failed to deal with a harmless high ball.
His weak header was intercepted by Saiti, who lobbed the ball over Romeo Zimba in goal for the hosts.
In the second half, BCC was a much-changed outfit. They played with purpose, with Convivial Masunda dictating the pace in midfield.
It appeared as if Thulani Sibanda had walked away with the maximum points until Bosso 90 striker Mthabisi Ncube was fouled a few meters outside the box by Godknows Ncube in the 88th minute. Up stepped Bosso 90 skipper Akim Nkomo, who was playing for the senior team last season. His effort was parried by goalkeeper Tanaka Chitimbe. The rebound cannoned off the crossbar, and Bosso 90 players scrambled to apply the finishing touch until substitute Tafara Mhaka nodded it home to elate the handful of Bosso fans who had braved the chilly weather.
