TELONE striker Washington Navaya has turned into a goal scoring machine, attracting attention to six unnamed Betway Premiership sides in South Africa, according to media in that country.

The former Highlanders striker, who played under Baltemar Brito in 2023 at the Bulawayo giants, has now banged in nine goals in 13 games and is tipped to break records.

According to a source, AmaZulu is one of the clubs chasing after the signature of the lanky striker, spurned by Bosso, only to turn into a lethal forward at his new home.

Hard on Navaya’s heels in the Castle Lager Golden Boot race is league pacesetters MWOS’ Billy Veremu, just a goal behind.

Veremu has been a vital cog for the league debutants, who are yet to taste defeat in the Castle Lager Premier League.

The Punters’ striker declared that his target this season is to break the late Noman Maroto’s  2010 record of 22 goals while at the defunct Gunners.

After Maroto no striker in Zimbabwean League has managed to breach the 20 goals mark.

Last season Lynoth Chikuhwa came close with 17 goals.

Caps United’s Dominic Chungwa scored 17 goals to nick the Golden Boot in 2017.

In 2018 it was FC Platinum’s Rodwell Chinyengetere, also with 17 goals.

Highlanders’ legend Zenzo Moyo won the Golden Boot in 2000 with 22 goals while Alois Bunjira netted 23 goals in half the season at Caps in 1996.

Chipo Tsodzo scored 20 goals for Masvingo United in 2001.
