The senior Zimbabwe men’s rugby team is set to face off against Zambia in Lusaka on Saturday at the Leopards Hill Polocrosse Club in the Zambezi Challenge.

After thrashing Zambia 70–15 in their previous match earlier this month, the Sables are looking to extend their winning streak.

In recent games, the Sables have demonstrated impressive form, including an 80–12 victory over Botswana’s Vultures just days after their win against Zambia.

Sables captain, Hilton Mudariki, is optimistic about the upcoming match, stating the team has its sights firmly set on the bigger challenge in July.

“We know how tough they are, especially at home,” he said.  “But we are looking forward to the challenge.”
The team has been preparing well, starting training early this year and seeing an influx of players returning from abroad.

The competition for spots in the team is expected to be fierce, with Mudariki noting that it’s a positive sign of the team’s depth and preparedness.

“A lot of guys are starting to come in at some stage.”
“Competition for spots will be super tough, but that’s what you want. You want to be as competitive as possible — give the coaches a headache when it comes to picking the team,” he said.

The match promises to be an exciting encounter, and fans can expect a thrilling display of rugby.

Zimbabwe is using the Battle of the Zambezi series as part of its preparations to defend its title at the Rugby Africa Cup, scheduled to take place in Uganda from July 7 to 21.

As reigning African champions, the Sables are determined to mount a strong title defence in what promises to be a fiercely contested tournament.
