FALLING giants Dynamos
will not be participating in the 2025, citing ill-preparedness for the continental showcase.
Last December, Dynamos beat Ngezi Platinum Stars 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time at Rufaro Stadium to retain the Chibuku Super Cup and qualify for the Caf Confederation Cup.
However, the struggling Harare giants have indicated they are not ready to venture into the African safari this year.
“We regret to inform our stakeholders that Dynamos FC will not be participating in the 2025/26 Caf Confederation Cup. After thorough evaluation, it has been determined that the club is not yet fully prepared to compete at continental level this year. While it has been a painstaking decision, we believe it is in the best interest of the team and everyone associated with Dynamos, to focus on strengthening its readiness for future competitions and ensure we would not participate in such tournaments just to make up numbers,” Dynamos said.
The club added: “We remain committed to our long-term development goals and appreciate your continued support as we work towards enhancing our club’s competitiveness on both the local and continental stage. We look forward to future opportunities to represent our country with honour and pride and we pledge to return to the continental stage even stronger.”
DeMbare won the Chibuku Super Cup in 2023 and last year participated in the Caf Confederation Cup but failed to progress to the lucrative stages of the competition after they bundled out of the tournament by Orapa United in the second round.
DeMbare won the first leg 1-0, raising hope they might sail through but lost one nil in the second leg and subsequently faltered during the penalty shootout, losing 3-1
Ngezi Platinum also took part in the Caf Champions League last year after winning the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title but also fell in the preliminary round after losing 4-3 on penalties to Maniema Union of DRC after both legs had ended nil nil.
