LEGENDS Sports Development Academy is embarking on an ambitious programme that will see them incorporate hearing impaired young players within their ranks as they embrace them into sport.
Working with the Association of the Deaf, the academy is aiming at ensuring deaf youngsters talented in sports get an opportunity to showcase their skills.
Academy director, Lawrence “Lofty” Phiri said parents of deaf children were concerned about lack of sporting opportunities for their children hence they came up with this project targeting young boys and girls.
During a meeting held with parents and teachers last week it was agreed the academy begins preparations with registration of players having kicked off.
“As we went about our academy work we realised that children with hearing impairments are being deprived of adequate participation in sports.
“We had a training programme before Covid struck where we engaged ASOD and schools, who managed to send youngsters we could train.
“After Covid, it became difficult to resuscitate the sessions but we are now ready,” he said.
