Brian Banda laid to rest

Hundreds turned up to bid farewell to footballer, Brian Banda at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre including the top football hierarchy.

Speaker after speaker paid glowing tribute to the FC Platinum midfielder describing him as a rare talent whose discipline and cool demeanor made him an affable character.

FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza described Banda as “his son” saying he was not just a midfielder but a rhythm for his team.

“He left a legacy in our hearts. He made football look effortless.
“He wore the national colours of Zimbabwe with honour, pride and humility,” he said.

Zifa president, Nqobile Magwizi said no words, no euologies can describe the grief that football has been plunged in.

Football Union of Zimbabwe president,  Desmond Maringwa said he saw himself in Birand Banda and reminded him of the days he used to torment Highlanders during his time at Dynamos.

His sister, Pretty said Banda taught her how to love as he exuded love for everyone around him.

Banda’s father-in-law, a Siziba said he was saddened to hear about his death at Barbourfields Stadium during the match between Highlanders and MWOS.

Banda was the only boy in a family of five and he is survived by his wife and three children.

Other football stakeholders who thronged Amphitheatre to bid farewell to Banda included Zifa vice president, Kennedy Ndebele, Premier Soccer League, acting chief executive officer, Rodwell Thabe, Highlanders officials, Luke Mnkandla, Kenneth Mhlophe, Sifiso Siziba and Elkanah Dube.
Former Highlanders vice chairman, Modern Ngwenya, Chicken Inn secretary,  Tavengwa Hara, FC Platinum officials that included chairman, Dumisani Sisale among others.
Football players from across various teams were also in attendance including fans.
