Nkayi United defender Moreblessing Ernesto has been rewarded for his steely efforts in June after being named the Zifa Southern Region Soccer League player of the month.
He beat stiff competition from teammate Grant Chigwenhese, Casmyn’s Stanson Khanye and Bosso 90 goalkeeper Romeo Zimba who scored two goals in the month and saved one penalty.
Veteran gaffer Daniel Ndlovu, who once coached the now defunct Amazulu, won the oach of the month award for his efforts with Nkayi.
Ndlovu shrugged off competition from Bosso 90’s Melusi Sibanda and Black Rock’s Mthulisi Maphosa, whose teams performed exceptionally well in the same month.
Nkayi United’s impressive form saw them win all four matches in June, assuming the top spot in the league.
Their dominance on the pitch has made them serious title contenders, and it’s no surprise that they won two awards.
In other award categories, Vic Falls City Herentals FC goalkeeper Anesu Dara won the Goalkeeper of the Month award, while Mainline forward Mthokozisi Dube clinched the top goalscorer award after scoring three goals.
The winners will be presented with their prizes during the Week 14 fixtures.
Action kicks off this afternoon with a potential thriller pitting second-placed Bulawayo Chiefs and a bruised Bulawayo City at White City Stadium.
In an earlier fixture, league leaders Nkayi will take on Imbizo at White City Stadium at 12 pm.
Tomorrow’s fixtures promise to be just as exciting.
Third-placed Hwange, fresh from holding Chiefs to a 1-1 draw at their home ground, will take on whipping boys NUST FC.
This match could be a crucial opportunity for Hwange to gain valuable points and move closer to the top of the league.
Another interesting encounter is scheduled for White City Stadium as Bulawayo Warriors host surprise package Bosso 90.
In a fascinating matchup, Kudzi Mhandire’s Talen Vision will welcome Mkhokheli Dube’s Zebra Revolution at Mthwakazi Stadium.
Both teams are renowned for their possession discipline, and it will be interesting to see who will win the midfield battle.
