AMBITIOUS Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side, Scottlaand moved to second spot on the log table following a narrow victory over Yadah this afternoon.
A Tymon Machope strike saw the league debutants move to 43 points, one behind defending champions, Simba Bhora who top the log.
Scottland unveiled Knowledge Musona as their player, highlighting their intent in clinching the championship.
Meanwhile, Chicken Inn and Triangle were the biggest movers up the log standings, following the last midweek and the weekend Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches as they make efforts to steer away from relegation.
Albeit the GameCocks travelled to Harare last Wednesday and returned home empty handed, they handed troubled Dynamos a 3-0 defeat at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday and moved three steps up the ladder to position 11 from 14 with 26 points before they hit the road to face log-leaders Simba Bhora at Wadzanayi Stadium.
Coach Joey Antipas was ecstatic and says they have been playing under pressure with the positive results not coming and they need the consistency going forward.
“You look at games that we’ve been playing, we’ve been playing very well, but we haven’t been putting them all behind the net. But I’d like to say that the boys played well, put up a good, a commanding performance and that’s what we needed. So what we need is just a bit of consistency to get ourselves up the log table and play without any pressure because we’ve been playing under pressure for quite some time now,” Antipas said.
Triangle, now on 24 points, also moved three steps up the ladder from position 16 to 13 following a goalless away draw to Highlanders at Barbourfields last Thursday and a 3-0 win against Bikita Minerals at Gibbo on Sunday, also jumping out of the relegation zone.
Coach Genesis Mangombe, who took over from Luke Masomere, is yet to lose a match in the last 10 games, executing three emphatic victories over Kwekwe United (3-0 at home), Green Fuel (5-1 away) and the 3-0 win over Bikita Minerals coupled with seven draws along the way.
He only lost to Manica Diamonds and Simba Bhora while in charge.
Mangombe was also elated, moving from the danger zone after beating Bikita Minerals.
“Although we are not safe from relegation, I am happy that we managed to pull out of the drop zone for the first time this season. We need to keep working hard and keep the momentum and surely we will be safe,” Mangombe said.
The team to watch at the moment is FC Platinum, who remain unbeaten in the league with nine wins but hard done by 13 draws and are now on position four on the table with 40 points, four behind leaders Simba Bhora and with a game in hand against Manica Diamonds.
Second placed MWOS are on position three with 42 points.
Some exciting games are up next as Simba Bhora host Chicken Inn, MWOS travel to struggling Dynamos with FC Platinum hosting Scottland as the race for the championship title heats up.
