NEWLY elected Zimbabwe Women Football League boss, Chido Chizondo’s first hurdle is the the league sponsorship, which she says they urgently need to secure.

Chizondo says her new committee is seized with the sustainability of the league top on their list of priorities, is ensuring there is funding that will filter down to the league’s clubs.

“Our immediate task as the the Zimbabwe Women Soccer League new executive is to at least secure some form of financial package for clubs so they can move to the end of the season. However, as we look at sponsorship as a whole, we also need to understand that clubs need to play their part in ensuring that they also have to try and work around securing their own sponsorships,” she said.

The FC Platinum Queens chair-lady said its critical for clubs to understand that football is a business and as such clubs must also benefit from that business.

She said they will be enforcing professional governance to try and at least establish an administrative structure with clear roles, accountability and institutional support that works in alignment with their constitution.

Chizondo said Club Licensing is important to implement but admitted there are certain elements they may not be able to address at this stage.

“It is also important that we empower and educate our governors, something we have to start doing immediately. Its unfortunate most of the time we find ourselves in conversations where we speak not from a place of knowledge or understanding, but from a place where information is not readily available to us. So it’s very important that our leaders in the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League get educated more, not only on statutes, but how the football ecosystem works from a Zimbabwean perspective, regional, and all the way to Fifa,” Chizondo said.

She added: “For me it is key that we educate or get as much information as we can to our councillors, our administrators, and the owners of our sports teams, our sports clubs, including those that are running academies.”

Chizondo heads new women football leadership that has Lewis Muzhara as her deputy and committee members include Sibusisiwe Dube, Talent Chitsaka, Mercy Makuwatsine, Shamuyarira Mupfudza and James Rugwevera.
