Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) debutants MWOS FC are slowly losing grip on the title chasing having gone five matches without collecting maximum points.
In the last five games they have played, the Lloyd Mutasa-coached outfit, has lost three matches and drawn twice after their last home 1-0 win to Bikita Minerals at Ngoni Stadium early last month.
After that July 5 match, MWOS did not register a win in the month of July, losing 1-0 to struggling Yadah at the Heart Stadium on July 12.
The following weekend they were humbled 2-0 by FC Platinum at home before a 1-1 draw to ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga on July 23.
They played another 1-1 stalemate with Herentals at Ngoni on July 26 to cap the month on a rough patch.
They started of August on a losing note with a 1-0 defeat to Dynamos at Rufaro on Saturday.
However they remain in contention for the honours with 42 points, five shy of leaders Simba Bhora and four away from Scottland FC and sitting on position three.
They collected just two points from a possible 15 points and their remaining in title race has been aided by a good run in the first half of the season when they spent the better at the apex of the standings.
MWOS are home to Simba Bhora in their next league assignment.
Comparatively, Joel Luphahla’s Simba Bhora (47 points) collected collected 10 points from their last five games with three wins, a draw and lost one game while Scottland collected all the 15 points in their last five games beating Ngezi Platinum, Highlanders, Bikita Minerals, Yadah and their biggest win so far, 5-2 over FC Platinum at Mandava on Saturday.
There wasn’t much movement on the standings after the weekend matches with FC Platinum remaining on the fourth spot with 40 points after losing to Scottland while Ngezi remained stuck on position five with 39 points after a 1-1 draw on the road to Highlanders at Barbourfields
Herentals on 38 points, are on position six after beating Kwekwe United while TelOne have dropped to the seventh spot with 37 points after losing 0-1 to Manica Diamonds at home on Saturday.
ZPC Kariba are on position eight with 31 points.
Kwekwe, Dynamos, Yadah and Triangle remain in the relegation zone with the Miracle Boys and the Sugar Sugar on 25 points while Dembare and Kwekwe are on 19 and nine points respectively.
But Highlanders, Caps United, Bikita, Green Fuel, Chicken Inn and Manica Diamonds are not safe from the chop as the difference in points with Triangle, who are on the relegation cut-off point, is just minimal.
