Bosso reject impresses on debut in Central Region

Mbonisi “Thuu” Ncube, the Highlanders striker deemed surplus to requirements just months after signing, announced his arrival in the Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) with a scintillating debut for Gwanda Pirates, inspiring a 1-0 victory over Midlands State University (MSU) at Phelandaba Stadium on Sunday.

Ncube, on loan from the Bulawayo giants, was the standout performer after his swift exit from Bosso.

Despite a debut goal being controversially ruled out for offside, reports from Phelandaba and subsequent social media analysis detail an impressive debut. Ncube, renowned for his breakout role in Emakhandeni Pirates’ 2019 promotion campaign to the Southern Region Soccer League and subsequent successful stint with Botswana Defence Forces side, BDF XI displayed his potential.

Ncube’s journey to Gwanda was abrupt. Signed by Highlanders at the start of the 2025 season, he managed only one substitute appearance – a brief cameo in a 1-0 loss to Herentals at Barbourfields. When the mid-season transfer window opened, Bosso opted to loan him out to the CRSL side, freeing up space for the arrival of Nigerian striker Benjamin Oluwaritimi from the opposite end.

Sunday’s performance suggested the move has instantly revitalised the 26-year-old. The Gwanda community, judging by the euphoric online reaction, has already embraced him as a key figure. Posts hailed him as the “talk of the town” and praised his immediate connection with the Pirates’ faithful.

The only goal of the match was scored by Terrence Kunene.

Meanwhile Sheasham maintained a tight grip on the top spot after defeating Matobo FC 4-2 at Bata Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Prince Matore’s team took their season’s tally to 48 points from 18 matches. Second placed Hardrock had narrowed their lead to three points on Saturday afternoon after thrashing ZRP Gwanda 3-0.

Johannes Ngodzo coached Gwanda are third with 36 points as they continue with their impressive debut season in the league.
