Nkayi United became the first team to reach the 50-point mark in the Southern Region Soccer League, assuming pole position with a 5-2 victory over Bosso 90 at Luveve Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A brace from forward, Tino Chitete saw him take his season’s tally to seven. He was joined on the scoresheet by compatriot Jimmy Chivasa, who netted his sixth, alongside Karel Jawa and Ronald Kaunda to seal a decisive victory.

Nkayi now tops the standings after 23 matches.
They capitalised after former log leaders Bulawayo Chiefs were held to a 1-1 stalemate by third-placed Hwange at the Colliery Stadium.

Chipangano were coasting to victory following a Toto Banda goal in the 64th minute. However, Amakhosi Amahle showed a never-say-die spirit to restore parity from a penalty taken by Panashe Shoko in the 81st minute.

Chiefs remain on 48 points, while Hwange moved to 43, now seven points behind the leaders.

Meanwhile, just days after denting Hwange’s title hopes, NUST FC repeated the feat against Bulawayo Warriors, holding the fourth-placed side to a goalless stalemate at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.

NUST’s 18-year-old goalkeeper, Makhosiwonke Dlamini, built on his midweek performance, where he denied Hwange victory, by thwarting several Bulawayo Warriors attacks.

Warriors remain on 39 points and are, mathematically, still in the title race.
