Zifa has released the list of candidates that have passed the first hurdle to take part in the upcoming elections for some of their affiliates with former Warriors striker Zenzo Moyo and football administrator Tatenda Mtungwazi headlining a strong field vying for the Southern Region chairmanship.
The two front-runners bring contrasting profiles to a race expected to generate intense interest across the region’s football circles.
Moyo, a respected former Highlanders and national team forward, has been actively involved in football development and club administration since hanging up his boots. His candidacy is viewed by many as a push for a player-centered leadership style aimed at restoring professionalism and unity within the game.
Mtungwazi, on the other hand, is widely regarded for his administrative acumen and grassroots experience after chairing Southern Region Area Zones between 2014 and 2018.
As a long-serving regional football organiser, he has built a reputation for structure, discipline, and community engagement—qualities many believe are crucial for rebuilding the region’s football systems.
The contest also features Tawanda Tali and current chairman, Lloyd Munhanga, making the Southern Region one of the most competitive races in this year’s ZIFA elections.
With integrity vetting underway, stakeholders are watching closely as the Ethics Committee finalises eligibility for candidates ahead of the December polls that could reshape the region’s football leadership.
