Breaking News: Eight Local Players Named in Warriors AFCON Squad

By OnSport Reporter

Warriors coach Marian Marinica has named his final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, with eight locally based players making the cut.

The local players selected are MWOS FC’s Martin Mapisa, Scotland FC trio Godknows Murwira, Knowledge Musona, and Tadiwanashe Chakuchichi, Simba Bhora’s Isheanesu Mauchi, Dynamos’ Emmanuel Jalai, CAPS United’s Ishmael Wadi, and reigning Soccer Star of the Year Washington Navaya of TelOne.

Vice-captain Marshall Munetsi missed out due to injury, alongside Udinese’s Jordan Zemura. There was also no place for Soccer Star of the Year runners-up Kelvin Moyo and Emmanuel Ziocha.

Other notable omissions include Simba Bhora midfielder Junior Makunike, Scottland defender Peter Muduhwa, and FC Platinum forward Jarrison Selemani, who were all impressive during the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

Luton Town’s Marvellous Nakamba will captain the side, with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Tawanda Chirewa and Motherwell’s Tawanda Maswanhise expected to be key figures in the Warriors’ campaign.

Zimbabwe will play their first Group B match against the Pharaohs of Egypt on Monday, 22 December, at the Stade Adrar in Agadir. They are grouped with South Africa and Angola.

The tournament kicks off on 21 December, with hosts Morocco taking on Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
