MORE than 400 athletes from across the country are set converge at White City for the Inter-provincials Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
The event will be used to select athletes that will represent Zimbabwe at the Southern Region Senior Track and Field Championships slated for July in Harare.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) chairman, Watson Madenyika said they are ready to host the athletes following a dry run held last Saturday.
He said technical officials are ready for the competition, with the electronic timing system set to be used on the day.
“I am encouraging athletes to work hard so that they stand chances of being selected for team Zim. I’m also encouraging spectators to come in numbers and cheer the athletes as they compete as all the ten provinces are sending in athletes,” he said.
Madenyika said there will be medals for each event that means a bronze, silver and gold for the top three with trophies also available for position one, two and three.
The Inter-provincial championship is the biggest competition for NAAZ where the best athletes from provinces compete and qualify for international competitions with some athletes even securing scholarships during the competition.
