FOLLOWING his fairytale run in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with dubutants MWOS, Lloyd Mutasa has revealed he wanted to quit football last year.
That was after his side failed to gain promotion to the top flight following a boardroom resolution that saw the ascension of Scottland FC.
Mutasa said this after his side beat Scottland 1-0 in a league match before a packed Ngoni Stadium on Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of a Billy Veremu goal.
“For a start, I would want to say glory be to God. I think we could not have done this without the Almighty and then winnimg against Scottland, I think it is so sweet. At one occasion, I wanted to give up coaching football because of what transpired last year and I know this was a massive game, and that was going to probably take away everything that we had worked for from the first game to game Number 13 had we lost this match in this community,” Mutasa said.
At the penultimate stages in the Northern Region Soccer League last year, the league’s disciplinary committee adjudged Karoi United to have caused the abandonment of their match against Scottland when the scoreline was 1-1.
Scottland was awarded the match on a 3-0 scoreline.
Karoi United appealed that decision but the Zifa Appeals Committee upheld the dsciplinary committee’s judgment at and the end of it all, Scottland was elavated to the PSL, two points clear of MWOS.
MWOS then got the ticket to the top league after ‘partnering’ the 2024 Southern Region Soccer League champions ZPC Hwange, who then acquired Adachi’s franchise in the southern league where they compete as Megawatt FC.
The rivalry between MWOS and Scottland ended in the former claiming victory in their first round in the PSL.
After 14 matches, MWOS remain unbeaten in the PSL with eight wins and six draws, leading the pack with 30 points while Scottland is on the third spot with 23 points from 13 games with six wins, five draws and two defeats.
