A Thobani Ncube header at the stroke of full-time won Hwange side Blackrock maximum points at White City Stadium B-Arena this afternoon in a Southern Region Soccer League fixture.
With the match headed for a goalless stalemate and both teams seemingly content with a point, it was Blackrock that capitalised on a freekick which Ncube glanced at to beat Junior Nkala in goals for Bosso 90 at the near post.
The freekick was awarded against the run of play after Bosso 90 midfielder Brian Ndlovu was left sprawling on the turf protesting for a penalty which was turned down by referee Rachel Jonga.
Blackrock, coached by Mthulisi Maphosa, moved to eighth position with 36 points from 24 matches, whilst Bosso 90 remained in the relegation zone with 26 points, just four above the drop zone.
In the afternoon encounter at the same venue, Hwange dropped two crucial points as they were held to a scoreless stalemate by Bulawayo Warriors.
Hwange had an 86th-minute goal by substitute Lucky Nyathi ruled out for offside by far-side assistant referee Kachepa Sibanda. The decision was contested by the away team, as they felt the goal should have stood, and the match officials needed protection after the game from security personnel.
Chipangano maintained their third position, taking their season’s tally to 50 points, but are seven points behind the log leaders Bulawayo Chiefs.
Meanwhile, in the title race, Bulawayo Chiefs opened a three-point lead at the top after beating Vic Falls City Herentals 2-1 at the Chiefs Village.
Second-placed Nkayi remained on 54 points after they bit the dust in Filabusi, losing 2-0 to fifth-placed Talen Vision.
