Nkayi United president and founder, Dr Brilliant Ncube has revealed they are availing $1 million to the club for the 2026 season to ensure promotion to the topflight.
Speaking during the club’s awards ceremony in Bulawayo, Ncube said they have been gradually increasing their annual budgets over the past two years and next they are setting aside $1 million.
“We initially had a budget of $150 000 but we realised we have to oncrease it for us and compete and this year we put in $350 000.
“For next year, we have set aside $1 million which we believe will assist us achieve our target of storming the Premiership,” he said.
Ncube revealed their ambition has always been to play among the country’s top clubs and will put all the effort to ensure they are promoted next year.
Zifa Southern Region chairman, Cris Mtungwazi praised Nkayi for their resilence this past season and giving eventually champions, Bulawayo Chiefs a good run for their money.
“Nkayi performed well this season, surpassing expectations of many people.
“They showed that for them Division One is not a destination but they have bigger plans to represent the region at a higher level,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, former Highlanders coach, Madinda Ndlovu urged players to desist from taking drugs and chasing skirts at their peak.
“Some take drugs thinking they are performance enhancing but that is not the case they destroy your career.
“Women will be buzzing around you because of your popularity but always know that a footballer’s career is very short,” he said.
Among those present at the ceremony include Chief Dakamela, former Highlanders vice chairman, Modern Ngwenya, former Bosso player, Chipo Tsodzo, businessman, Byron Rice, Five Brands director, Ruth Ncube, officials from Kingdom Blue and Zifa Southern Region officials among others.
