RURAL grassroots soccer is rarely given a second thought by sponsors with those in the bright lights getting the advantage.

However, TX Money Transfer is one of the companies is giving talent in rural areas a chance after heeding the call to fund the hosting of the Nkayi Soccer Academy Youth Tournament.

Bard Santner Group head of marketing, Progress Nyahuma said the company’s deep commitment to community development and social upliftment, particularly among vulnerable youth motivated them to partner Nkayi Soccer Academy.

She said TX Money Transfer chief executive officer. Senziwani Sikhosana, hails from Nkayi and is personally passionate about giving back to the area where he grew up.

“This initiative is not only a way to honor Sikhosana’s roots but also to address critical challenges faced by young people in Nkayi, such as drug abuse, child pregnancy, and lack of opportunities.

“Sport has a unique ability to inspire, unite, and educate, making it an effective tool in the fight against social issues like drug abuse.

“By engaging boys and girls in football, the tournament provides a positive, structured activity that keeps them away from harmful behaviors while promoting teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence.

“More importantly, it raises awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and empowers the youth to make better life choices,” she said.

Nyahuma said they are confident the sponsorship will have a lasting impact on the Nkayi community as it not only provides a platform for young talent to shine but also highlights the importance of investing in underdeveloped areas.

She said TX Money Transfer, as part of the Bard Santner Group, has consistently demonstrated its dedication to grassroots soccer, as seen in its previous sponsorships of Zebra Revolutions Soccer Academy in Bulawayo and Legends Football Club in Harare.

Nyahuma said through this partnership, they hope to inspire other organisations to take similar steps in supporting vulnerable communities across Zimbabwe.

The tournament kicked off today in Nkayi with over 20 teams, composed of boys and girls, taking part in the three-day event.
