Victoria Falls Footballers Spread Christmas Cheer, Honour Community Roots

In a heartwarming display of gratitude and community spirit, local football figures and players descended on the Chipandawodi Old People’s Home in Victoria Falls this Christmas, delivering groceries, gifts, and festive joy to elderly residents.

The initiative, spearheaded by community-minded footballers Rodwell Sate and Ignatius Ndlovu, has become an annual December tradition. It is fueled by a dedicated fundraising football match where the goal is not silverware, but groceries and cash donations for the home’s residents.

This year’s event saw a powerful gathering of Victoria Falls’ football family. In attendance were revered local coaches Try Ncube, assistant coach of Bulawayo giants Highlanders FC, and Coach Dumile Mpofu. They were joined by Golden Lions Director McMillan Kima Sibanda and players Andrew Ndlovu and Prince Kahilu, who helped deliver the gifts and spend time with the elderly.

The gesture, however, was emphasised as a collective effort of the entire town. Ncube, who hails from Victoria Falls, highlighted this communal spirit in his address.

“These gifts didn’t come from us only but from a lot of different people within the City of Victoria Falls,” said Ncube. “Some of them are not here with us because of different commitments, but we are here to deliver in their absence.”

The support extended beyond the football community. Vusa Moyo of Pamozi Company complemented the donations by offering free reading and sunglasses to the elderly residents, addressing practical needs alongside the festive provisions.
